Uganda All Relevant Import and Export Statistics 2022 that you must Know
The landlocked country Uganda depends on imports that mostly come through the port of Mombasa in Kenya. Most of the country’s imports are from India and China. As per Uganda Import Data, the imports value of the goods imported in the year 2021 was US$296 million. The main imports of Uganda are pearls, precious stones, mineral fuels, machinery, vehicles, nuclear reactors, medical equipment and supplies.
The main import partners are South Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Congo Dem Rep, and Rwanda. As per Uganda Custom Data, the country imports from South Sudan vehicles other than railway and tramway. The value of these imports was US$ 102.4 thousand during 2020.
From Japan, Uganda imports cars and vehicles for transporting persons and this value was US$ 146.74 million during 2020. The country is 149th largest goods trading partners with $185 million in total goods trade during 2019. Goods exported totalled $ 104 million and US trade surplus with Uganda was $24 million in 2019.
The country imports pearls, precious stones, metals, coins from Gambia and the value of which was US$ 212.87 million during the year 2020.
As per Uganda Export Data, the total value of goods exported by the country increased by 339.22 USD in the year 2021. The main exports of the country are gold, coffee, cocoa beans, tea and raw sugar. The main export partners are United Arab Emirates, Kenya, South Sudan, Democratic Republic Congo and Italy.
As per Uganda Shipment data, the coffee exports in June 2021 amounted to 618,388 60 kilos bags worth US$ 58.56 million, the highest ever in single month since 1991. Coffee is the country’s top earning export crop.
The country is Africa’s biggest coffee exporter and it is the second largest producer of beans after Ethiopia. The exports of the country grew by 972,962 bags in 2020, a 22% rise from 2019. The country exports more of its coffee mainly Robusta to China.
Robusta is leading coffee spices of Uganda. However, the precious metal gold has overtaken coffee to become Uganda’s most important commodity in recent years. The gold exports totalling $1.7 billion between November 2019 and December 2020.
As per Uganda Custom data, the exports of gold was more than double in the year 2019. In the year 2020, the exports of gold were worth $3.47B, making it the 28th largest exporter of Gold in the world.
