Exports are fuel of economic growth in Indonesia. The major exports of the country are oil and gas, animal and vegetable fats and oils, electrical equipment and machinery. Other exports include footwear, garments not knitted, ores, slag and ash. The main export partners are China, United States, Japan, Singapore and India.

As per the Import Export Data, the major export partners of Indonesia are the United States, China, Japan, India and Singapore. The total value of imports grew 32.8% year on year in August 2022, as compared with an increase of 39.8% year on year in the previous month.

The imports of Indonesia included machinery and equipment, electrical appliances, plywood, rubber and textiles. The main import partners are China, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and United States.

Indonesia has hardly its own technological capabilities. Most of the machines have to be imported. Machine production in the country is small so it imports machinery from other countries. Indonesian consumers spend their rising personal earnings on electronics and home appliances, striving for personal comfort and entertainment.

The driving force behind this consumer trend, aside from the general increase in living standards, is urbanization and booming residential property market in the country’s emerging economy. In 2020, 41% of the electro mechanical domestic appliances imports of Indonesia were food grinders and mixers.

As per Indonesia Import Data, the country exports of animal or vegetable fats and oils, hydrogenated, not further prepared to Venezuela was US$137.9 thousand in 2010. In 2020, the country exported $23.6m other pure vegetable oils mainly to Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Gambia, Republic of Congo and Singapore.

The country has banned the export of palm oil as the global food inflation rises. The export ban has trapped at least 290,000 tonnes of the edible oil meant to be headed to India at ports and oil mills in the world’s top producer.

Most of the rubber production in Indonesia is exported to other countries like United States, Japan, and China. A lack of downstream industry made Indonesia’s rubber industry heavily dependent on export markets.

Around 85% of the Indonesia’s rubber production is exported. Almost half of the rubber is shipped to Asian countries, followed by North America and Europe. The top 5 rubber importing countries are the USA, China, Japan, Singapore and Brazil.
